翻看去年的总结，写的是“完成了多少万字翻译、多少个现场口译”，今年再回头看，那些数字已经没太大意义了。今年最大的变化，是从“把话翻对”往“把事办成”上挪了一步。这一步挪得挺费劲，但也确实解决了一些往年老碰到的麻烦。
先说术语这档子事。往年最头疼的，是活干完了，术语表还没统一。一个项目少说三五个人经手，“法兰垫片”有人写“gasket”有人写“sealing pad”，等设备到场安装，工人拿着图纸问监理“这俩是不是一个东西”，场面就尴尬了。今年在lng储罐项目启动前，我干了件以前懒得干的事：把业主过去三年的施工规范、设备手册全部过一遍，拉出一张两百来词的高频术语表，组织翻译团队和技术员坐在一起，一条一条过。比如“hydrostatic test”，技术员说现场都叫“打水压”，但我们对照国标gb/t 20801，正式文件里得用“静水压试验”。最后定下来：正文用“静水压试验”，现场沟通时可以在括号里加注“俗称打水压”。就这点活儿，让后续三个月的翻译稿返工率降了六成不止。说白了，翻译这事，开头多花两天把词定死，后面能省两个星期的扯皮。
现场口译这块，今年碰上一档子事，现在想起来还冒汗。压缩机调试那会儿，外方专家指着底座说“we need to shim this baseplate.”按常规翻成“需要垫这个底座”，工人肯定一头雾水——垫哪儿？垫多厚？我当时没急着张嘴，先让外方用手比划具体位置，又追问了一句垫片的厚度和材质。外方说先试2毫米的不锈钢垫片，我连说带比划给了工人，他扭头就去库房领料，前后不到十分钟。要是按老路子只翻一句话，等工人反应过来再回头问，外方可能已经去喝咖啡了。后来外方专家私下跟我聊，说“你是我见过最爱问‘多厚’‘多宽’‘什么材料’的翻译”。我说这不叫爱问，这叫吃过亏。
故障案例库这事，是今年被逼出来的。五月份有个离心压缩机振动超标，外方给的故障处理步骤是“check the alignment and grout condition.”我们按字面翻成“检查对中情况和灌浆层状态”，技术员看了直挠头——对中情况怎么检查？灌浆层状态看什么？后来我拉着技术员去现场，看他实际操作一遍，回来把这句话改成了“用激光对中仪检查电机与压缩机的对中偏差，目测检查底座灌浆层有无裂纹、空洞，并用橡胶锤轻敲听声音判断是否空鼓。”再往后，每次处理完故障，我都把外方的英文
